Tutua Boshell

STATEMENT

The perception of light is the inspiration of my paintings. I create “all-over” surfaces of modulations of color applied on the canvas in thick impasto with a float. Unpremeditated swings of the wrist move the “polyphonic” color paint applied in big bold broad slabs to create unpredictable effects of color contrast and formlessness interaction of waves.

CURRICULUM VITAE

Boshell was born in Bogota, Colombia and graduated from The French language and culture Institute in Paris, and from Universidad del Rosario in Bogota. She worked for 9 years at the Alliance Française d’ Bogota until 1979 then opened her own studio. After participating in marble carving workshops in Pietrasanta, Italy, Boshell produced numerous paintings and sculptures. In 1998 she settled down in Miami where she achieved a Master in Arts at Miami University under the mentorship of Darby Bannard, well-known abstract painter. Boshell currently lives in Key Biscayne, Florida.

In her last series, Boshell plays with concepts of reality and illusion printing her artworks on mirror glass. The mirror creates an interactive relationship between the viewer and the image.
