Silvia Maria Medina

With the decline of art education around the world, Silvia Medina's vision is to bring art to the community. Medina believes in the power of art to inspire. Her ambitious, ground-breaking programs include hosting artists in residence, and taking emerging artists to international art fairs and biennials.
Medina has more than 30 years of art world experience. She is a founding member of the Havana Biennial and the Wilfredo Lam Center. She has curated many national and international art fairs, and collaborated with major art publications such as Art Nexus and Art Districts. Medina also served as executive director of Sala Mendoza in Caracas, Artistic Director at PagesEspaid'Art Gallery in Barcelona, and Intrepid Art Gallery in Vero Beach, Florida.
An award-winning photographer, Niurka graduated from Havana University with a degree in Classical languages and worked for twelve years for Agence France-Presse (AFP). Since 2005, she works as a freelance photographer in Toronto, Canada, and worldwide. Barroso's work exhibited in Austria, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, Israel, France, Spain, and The United States from 1995 to 2019. She was awarded the Casa de las Americas Award for Contemporary Photography, and is a member of Photographers without Borders. She is the creator of "The Faces of Eve," an itinerant photographic project about Women and the Place they call Home.
